There’s a depth, texture, and emotion that film captures like nothing else. It’s raw and real in the most timeless way.

3. Topsham Quay & River Exe

Are you and your partner after something with that coastal vibe? Topsham is a top pick. It’s only a short drive from Exeter, and the light here is often magical, especially around sunset. You’ve got cobbled streets, old boats, the river and wide open skies. It’s a dream setting for both digital and film photography.

4. Haldon Forest Park

If you want to be in the city, Exeter’s historic quayside has so much character: red brick warehouses, iron railings, reflections on the water. Cornwall is not only a well-loved holiday destination, it’s a fabulous place for weddings. There’s a reason this part of Britain has been used as a filming location for so many romantic period dramas, including Poldark and numerous Rosamund Pilcher adaptations.

Devon is most famous for its breathtaking countryside and gorgeous beaches, making it a real treat for me as a wedding photographer ! If you’re after exquisite scenery, there are many incredible venues in this part of England.

This beautiful wedding took place at The Willows At The Woodman’s, where I worked in the background from 10 am to 10pm. Their vows were enchanting, full of laughter, the venue was stunning, and the couple were the loveliest people!

What an amazing day. I discovered two days before the wedding, that the father of the bride was also the head of the Leica Society and had published a book of his own photography. So no pressure. Gara Rock a truly stunning hotel in Devon, is a venue I have photographed at many times before, so thankfully despite the pressure I had self imposed about impressing the head of the Leica Society, I felt very much at home. The couple couldn't have been lovelier, the grooms brother was also a professional musician, and his music on the day was awesome. The brides father was brilliant and any pressure I had imposed on myself melted away as soon as I met him. The sun came out before just before the ceremony started, and stayed out for the rest of the day. Although having the sun was great, it did make running up and down the hill to the beach and back that little bit extra harder. If you've been, you know what I'm talking about. Also a word about the venue, Gara Rock, if you haven't been, it is well worth a visit, the setting is stunning, the pools are a family favourite, and the food (especially the cooked breakfast) is heavenly.

Roscarrock, Cornwall, Stunning Venue, Gorgeous Couple, Digital and Analogue photos, and Super 8 Video

Jess and Alec flew all the way over from Texas to get married at the truly stunning venue close to Port Isaac called Roscarrock. I met with them the day before the wedding at the venue. I was blown away by just how stunning the venue was, it is definitely one of my all time favourites. Jess and Alec where so lovely, and I remember thinking when I drove home that day, "if don't make some amazing pictures from this day its all on me, as all the ingredients for an amazing day are right there". Thankfully the weather was very kind, the caters on the day were brilliant, and the wedding planner Sophie was awesome. I had been asked to shoot the day with digital cameras, analogue cameras and make a 6 min long Super 8 video.

The day started with a team of four people doing the hair and make up for the bride and her 7 bridesmaids and the boys having a swim, (at one point in their birthday suits!), the boys then relaxed by having a snooze on the grass where the ceremony was due to take place later. The celebrant was one of their mates, one of the many friends who had flown from the states. After the service the couple, myself and the host for the venue Robert, went in Roberts' Land Rover to take some pics by the cliffs, I couldn't have been luckier to be photographing this day, there where so many amazing vantage points, and the photography gods where definitely smiling. The day carried on getting better and better, and after the first dance the sun peaked out to give a glorious golden light to some lovely pictures of Alec and Jess enjoying their first few moments of married life together.

Kingstone Estate Totnes

One of my favourites from 2023: Christian and Gilly get married at the Kingston Estate Totnes.

The most perfect day, with the warmest, loveliest couple.

The Kingston Estate, is an award winning venue, situated close to Totnes, in Devon. It was built in the early 1700s, and is truly a magical venue to get married at.

Gilly and Christian had the most awesome wedding in the middle of the summer of 2023, their day was amazing. I had the privilege of being asked to make a Super 8 video for their wedding, as well taking some photographs for them too.

The rooms upstairs for the bridal preparation are simply stunning, and the venue only gets better from there onwards.

Before Gilly was ready to go downstairs for the actual ceremony, she paused first to have a meditation with her bridesmaids, such a lovely way for their day to begin. The looming rain clouds obviously had read the script and managed to hold themselves back just long enough for the ceremony to take place. They then used the ground floor of the main house to host a brilliant drinks reception, followed by the breakfast which was held at the purpose built barn, the food was delicious. The heavens finally opened with Gilly and Christian being escorted back to the main part of the house under a canopy of umbrellas. They cut the cake and danced the night away under the brand new awning. Having been there for 12 hours I left at 10 pm, and they headed back into the house to the underground dance venue. If I say so myself, the resultant Super 8 video turned out pretty fantastic, and I was super touched when the couple told me that not only do the love the film I made for them, but that they really treasure the images I gave to them too.

Photographing a wedding at the Kingston Estate in Totnes is a dream come true for any wedding photographer. The historic charm, picturesque landscapes, and elegant architecture provide the perfect canvas for capturing a couple's love story. The Kingston Estate truly is a magical setting for a love story, and as a photographer, you have the privilege of preserving those memories forever.

Two and a half months on and being able to relive the best day of my life through the gorgeous film Harley did for us still brings me to tears of happiness, and joy to my heart! Harley is such a kind soul and was extremely helpful on the wedding day and in the lead up to the wedding, meeting us at the venue a few weeks prior so he would be familiar with house and grounds. He did such an amazing job and the film and photos speak for themselves! I couldn't recommend Harley enough for whatever your needs might be to make your wedding day memories just PERFECT!
